This New Year's Eve Is Going To Be A Blast!

I'm so excited for the New Year's Masquerade! We've had masquerades in the past and its so much fun seeing everyone dressed to the nines and figuring our who they are. NYE is our one really big, fancy party. I love seeing which guys have (or rent) tuxedos. The variety of dresses is always exciting.  We meet lots of new members and remnisce with friends we've not seen for a while, too.
We eat, we drink, we dance, we laugh, we take silly pictures in the photo booth, and we celebrate the end of a good year and the prospect of another one.

Nutty Nutcracker!

I love that we are a festive group. We caught the Nutty Nutcracker in Fort Worth this weekend. We met at the Cowtown Diner and a had a great, comfort food dinner. It was nice meeting before the ballet so we had time to socialize.  We bundled up, dashed over to Bass Hall, had a festive beverage and laughed all evening while the Texas Ballet spoofed The Nutcracker and current events.  The ballet was outstanding and they mixed in great music. When the troupe started Thriller as the finale we jumped to our feet and sang at the top of our lungs with the rest of the audience. You can see we all got a little nutty. . .

Sleigh Ride In Dallas?

We had a sleigh ride! Betcha didn’t know we could do that here in DFW.  Our sleigh is the largest sleigh in the US: 20 people! Instead of dashing through the snow with one horse, our sleigh had wheels under the runners and we had 2 beautiful draft horses- Cagney & Lacey. Santa joined us and rode with us most of the way. It was a great way to see the Holiday lights. The weather was beautiful. It was fun singing along to some of the Christmas carols and telling Santa our outrageous wishes for Christmas. After our ride we grabbed a bite to eat and socialized some more.  What an awesome festive night! Events And Adventures Dallas

More From New York!

Traveling with E&A is awesome. Not only do they do all the planning work, but we get to hang out with members of the other cities. I had such a great time! For many of us it was our first time in New York City. I got to experience the city with friends not only from Dallas but also Minneapolis, San Jose and Vancouver. I met a bunch of new friends from other cities too. I love that E&A scheduled the best stuff for us. Carnegie Deli, Radio City and the Rockettes, Hop on & off bus tour, boat tour around Manhattan Island with a fabulous narrator that knew, well, everything about the city’s history. The holiday lights are awe-inspiring. We had time to do our own thing, too. We got discount tickets for Broadway shows. Spiderman Rocked! Visited the Empire State & Rockefeller buildings-WOW. Sat in the audience of my first TV show. Really cool. We ate all kinds of delicious food (think I’ll be paying for that for a while). How can you stop when it’s EVERYWHERE? Thank you so much for a great trip! I’ll remember it forever! Events And Adventures Travel

Live from New York… it’s Events & Adventures!

Flying in from all over the country… we’re finally here in the Big Apple!!  Imagine meeting someone for the first time… in New York… for your first time in the city!  If the distraction of the traffic isn’t enough, what about the buildings and architecture, the buzz of Times Square, the roar of the night clubs, or even the scents from the food trucks lining the street?  For most of us, it was our first time here… as we walked to our dinner location this evening, I loved hearing the “OMG’s” and “Look at that!” from the group behind me, as I led them down 5th Avenue, then over to 7th, through Times Square… the light was enough to want us to put our shades on, but standing in the middle of the glowing lights, I saw the awe in their faces… as people surrounded us, walking about, not caring that it was our first time here… we took pictures, we looked at our maps… we were tourists tonight, and we were ok with that!  As we walked, we thought about our feet and possibly questioned the shoes we wore today, but when we finally hit the famous Carnegie Deli, got seated at our own table and got right to ordering, we knew the walk was worth it!  As we look at the menu, we see other plates going out to other tables… “Woah” and “Is that the size??” is what came out of their mouths… but as we got our own plates set in front of us, we couldn’t help but take some photos!  And don’t forget the New York Cheesecake for dessert… I have never tasted anything like it… as we talked about what we wanted to see and to plan our next day of adventures, I couldn’t help but think about how great an opportunity this was to meet some fellow E&A friends from our clubs around the country, let alone, check off a New York City visit on our bucket lists!  And on only day 1, all I have to say is… “Oh New York… we have only just begun!” This blog was written by our Event Host Megan from Minneapolis!

He Pops The Question.....Another Happy Couple!

I love these kinds of stories! Will joined E&A last February.  On our Cinco de Mayo dinner cruise Marcia brought her friend Lenea as a guest. Will and Lenea immediately hit it off. Lenea joined the group shortly thereafter and she and Will have been inseparable. They are even joining us on the New York trip this week! A little bird told me this trip was going to be something to remember forever and Lenea’s smile said it all. A formal engagement was coming. Well, that little bird wanted there to be a surprise for Lenea. This past Saturday Will and Lenea had a few friends over for a wine party. I was one of the lucky guests. When Will was thanking everyone for coming he dropped to one knee, whipped out a beautiful ring and asked Lenea to marry him. She of course said Yes!  Congrats you two! We look forward to your nuptials next fall! Events And Adventures Dallas

Hooked On Indoor Skydiving!

We do the coolest things!  Last week an indoor skydiving facility opened here in DFW. There’s only a dozen around the world so we were thrilled to try it out.  It’s the floating sensation like the free fall in skydiving, but it’s only a few feet off the ground and there’s a guy standing there making sure you are floating right and having a blast. The whole surface area and wind speed physics thing is amazing. A guy stands next to you while you are floating on air! They adjust the air speed for each person’s weight and skill level. We got to watch experienced jumpers and they do all kinds of tricks and spins.  I had the best time! We had a few hesitant members come watch instead of jump and they are all going to try it next time. It’s not at all scary like jumping out of a plane. It’s awesome! After we grabbed lunch and we dished on how we felt and the tricks we want to learn when we do it again. I am definitely hooked on indoor skydiving. Events And Adventures Dallas

New Member Takes A Big Leap!

Less than 24 hours ago, I attended my first Events and Adventures activity. Being the adventurous sort, I dove head first into Trapeze class with about 18 other members. When I wasn't perched on the edge of a 20ft high board ready to swing in the air, I was sharing great conversations and admiring others' techniques with a crowd of well-wishers. We were all there to have fun, and had a great time because of that fact. Everyone was friendly and nice, making our circus lesson one of a kind. Together, we were all flying high! Another Awesome E&A Trip Coming Up!

Can't wait to hang out with over 40 of my E&A friends on the 18th Annual Events and Adventures Whistler Ski Trip. We will be leaving on Thanksgiving, but will get there in time for a wonderful Thanksgiving feast with our E&A family. We will be staying in the Village for easy access to Chairlifts and Gondolas for some AWESOME skiing during the day and all the nightlife at night! We let you know how it all turns out, but if it is anything like past years there will be much to talk about!

Something Else To Cross Off The Bucket List!

The E&A Skydive was amazing!  The 60 second free-fall full of spins and twists rivals no other thrill!

I even got to pull the rip      cord for my chute......                     What a ride!

  Then gently float to the
   earth below with a few
           more spins …
   and the perfect landing
     … awesome hardly
             describes it!

How does a woman over 30 make new friends?

Guys can walk into a bar, watch a game and walk out with 2 new friends and a golf game planned for Saturday.  Women, we are more self conscious.  It’s hard to make friends. We aren’t willing to share with strangers.  When we move someplace new or get a new job with new co-workers or get divorced, our lives change. We often lose our local support system.  How do you replace it? Events & Adventures does just that. I was new to town and recently single. Attending events I always wanted to try but my ex wasn’t interested in allowed me to meet women who have similar interests as me. After you see people repeatedly and you get to know them and start hanging out outside the club. You carpool. You pet sit for each other. You gradually build friendships.  I’ve met some cool chicks. I’ve made great friends.  Most the local friends in my phone I met through E&A. Yeah, I still tell my woes to my best friend from college, but when I need to help me drown my sorrows, tell me “Those jeans fit great” or cheer “Come on! You can climb that! We’ll do it together” I turn to my new E&A friends who have become just as cherished as my old growing-up friends. Here’s to new forever friends! Events And Adventures Dallas

New Member Ice Breaker and Trampoline Dodgeball!

Last Saturday we started the night off with our New Member Icebreaker and the new members had a ball competing in the People Bingo game. All it took was one member whose birthday was in November for a brand new member to yell “BINGO”. Poor Brad thought one of the new members was getting fresh when she asked him if he’d ever been skinny dipping. He was disappointed when she quickly turned her attention to the next person. After our winner did her happy dance we hit the trampolines for an amazing evening of trampoline dodgeball.  It was funny as the existing members came in and were greeted by cheers of “fresh meat” by all those already there and a lot of laughter was shared. Since we had the place to ourselves we took over the back trampoline area and had a giant dodge ball game.  Whew! Talk about tiring. But it was a great work out!

Pedal Pub Fun!

DFW has finally got a Pedal Pub! It’s downtown Fort Worth in  Sundance Square. And it isn’t nearly as exhausting as I thought it would be.  Thank goodness because I hate the gym. I looked at it and thought we’re going to pedal this thing for how long?!? Two hours later I was so happy I went. We stopped every few blocks for refreshment, so no one got really winded. One stop the feature was French fries and we passed them around while pedaling to our next stop. It was totally fun! The driver rang the bell at every green light to get us going and we yelled “Pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal, PEDAL” and laaauughed. The people we passed took our picture and cheered us on. We had the best time. You Gotta Try It!  Events And Adventures Dallas

We had an AWESOME Halloween Party Saturday Night!

It started with something unusual – a professional make-up artist zombie-izing people. In about 3 minutes Vivienne Vermuth changed each victim from whatever their costume was into a realistic looking zombie or an undead with wounds and dripping blood. It was amazing! Then, we all had a chance to step up to a green screen where one our members, David, took our pictures and printed them with a spooky house in the background so we had great souvenirs from the night. The food was a yummy taco/nacho bar and the DJ played anything we wanted to dance to. We danced until way after Midnight. We had a blast!

Giant Jenga is like a car accident!

You don’t want to see the crash but you can’t help but be curious. A shiny object you can’t stop looking at. An addiction we can’t stop playing. We played again at games night this weekend. And played and played. Games night is cool because it’s a potluck so we have great food and play games like Giant Jenga, card & board games and sometimes we even play charades. This weekend everyone gathered ‘round the Jenga. It’s amazing how high that thing can get. It’s almost as dramatic as a psycho-thriller movie. Everyone cheers when someone makes that tower stay upright and the collective gasp before the laughter as it falls gives you whiplash if you weren’t already looking.  Great fun! Can’t wait to see what the next games night will bring!

Absinthe Drinks!

We went to the coolest little bar that specialized in Absinthe drinks. Yep, that incredibly strong, licorice flavored liquor that was banned for years because it supposedly caused people to go crazy. It of course doesn’t, but if you drink too many it sure will seem like it.  Making and serving the drinks are a whole production. I think we spent more time gathered ‘round the bar watching the bartender light the sugar on fire and drip water on it from a special cool, old dispenser than anything else. Everyone got a different kind or a different drink and shared them. So we found out some Absinthes are more minty, others have a mellow flavor and still others are holy-licorice-batman!  This joint  totally encouraged the whole green fairy myth. We walked in and it was so dark compared to the bright light outside it felt like joining the group by them calling out was more accurate than finding them by sight. Most the lights were of the green string variety.  The comfortable couches in a circle were perfect for us to crowd in and talk and tease as to who had the best drink - and best I-can’t-believe-I-drank-that story.  Definitely something you need to try if you’ve never have!

We Went Rafting in Peru!

Have you ever been river rafting? WOW!

What a thrill. We started off on a calm leg of the Umbra River in Peru. Most the water is from glacial runoff. Good thing because that sun is toasty at 10,000 feet. We learned to paddle together (which is very difficult when there’s a splash fight with the other boats!) and headed down to the class 3 rapids. Coolest thing ever. Our awesome guides knew just when we needed to give extra effort to stay off those sneaky rocks. A couple times my heart felt like it was going to stop when we hit the rushing rapids. We looked at each other and realized we all had the terror-thrill grins and started laughing as we slapped out paddles together over our heads for our congratulatory cheer. We did it! When can we do it again?
